While working as a dancer she received her early training in music from the likes of Jimmy Woode, Fritz Pauer and Albert Mair. Her musical partners now include Carmel Jones, Bobby Burgess, Red Holloway, Rolf Ericson, Lee Harper and Frank Mantooth, to mention only a few.

Elly spent the early part of the 1960's in the USA where she extendet and perfected her knowledge and awareness of jazz. She received a musical education with jazz studies at the Berklee College in Boston, and at jazz seminars with Sheila Jordan, Bobby Mc Ferrin and Rudi Wilfer.

After her return to Europe, Elly lived mostly in Hamburg and Berlin. In Berlin in the 1970's she met the renowned alto-saxophonist Leo Wright, who had gained fame working with jazz notables such as Dizzy Gillespie and Charles Mingus. Leo and Elly were married in 1975 and formed the group LEO WRIGHT AND FRIENDS - with Leo Wright (alto/fl); Rolf Ericson (tp); Eduardo Lisavetzky (p); Aladar Pege (b); Ron Stephenson (dr); Elly Wright (voc).

Elly returned to Vienna and has lived there since 1981. She taught voice at the Schubert Conservatory and is often invited to participate in vocal clinics such as Wiener Neustadt Consevatory, Forum Alpbach Tyrol and the Vocal Jazz Workshop in Pulawy, Poland.
Elly has toured with the Larry Porter and Paul Grabovsky Trio and with guitarist Peter Marinoff throughout former East and West Germany. She performes regularly at Vienna's top jazz venues, such as JAZZLAND, PORGY&BESS, and many more.
